What's new

Searching for ways to get people to stop telling me to sell my pictures.....

Lie. Tell them you do sell them and that you are very profitable.

Am i evil that this is the first thing that came to mind? Lol I'll take it!

OP...I'm the same as you. Freezing time is sacred to me...I don't s*** where I eat. But seldom do people ask me if sell my work. I do ugly social doc photography.

Or option 2 is to ask them how much they'd pay for one of your prints; then ask if they want to buy one and then say "and there's the problem" (because chances are they've either quoted high and said no or they quoted low and said sure*)

*note if they quote high and say yes - take them up on the offer and go have a free dinner on them or something^
Ohhh, I can think of several people this would work on! Nice!
I gave this some thought ... "I don't do this for the money." Which will probably open up "But you're so good ... you could make a lot of money ..." and you can respond ... "There are a lot of things I don't do for money and photography is one of them."
:giggle: this truly made me laugh out loud. So loud DH inquired what the heck was so funny.

Tell them that taking pictures and selling them are two completely different professions. If they want to sell your pictures on your behalf, let them do it, pay 10% commission to them and give the rest to your favourite charity. If they do not want to sell your pictures why do they keep telling you to do it?

Also a good idea! I like it!

You could always sell frames and throw the pictures in for free, This way you can support your gear purchases and not compromise your beliefs :allteeth:

I do all sorts of things to encourage my husband to support my gear purchases, selling picture frames isn't one of them. :giggle:

Here's your chance to do some market research. I'm with John on this - when they say you should sell, you come back with, "Great! what size do you want? and how much do you want to pay me? Framed or unframed? Glossy, mat, canvas or metallic? And FYI, reproduction rights are extra."

Everything is for sale if you have enough money. Everything.

Say thank you and ask them if they would like to be the first buyer?

Alan, Alan, Alan.... Sigh. Didn't they teach you anything in marketing? It's not "the first buyer", but "I could add you to my list of clients, who for their own reasons, decline to be identified, but it won't be cheap".

But Jazzie, your photos are so good! You should really sell them. :D

this is my favorite suggestion, I'm going to use that if you don't mind :)

What I do is tell them that my photos are priceless.

Even if you are a dead-rich person, you can't buy time. Cemeteries are full of dead rich people.
