At one point in my career I was interested in monetary gain from the art but I found that it became more about what the client(s) wanted than seeking to further my skill set in the creation of art (as I see it). I turn down paid work for the most part. I only shoot what I want and I keep 100% creative right to anything I shoot....I'm happier.
