Just bought a TZ30 Lumix from Japan and Menu is in Japanese. Manual says "Go to Menu and Select Language". I can't find any Language Option (or Language icons) and Menu is entirely in Japanese. Panasonic website has no Customer Support.

G'day mate

Pop into the main Setup Menu and find World Time (set if needed) then Travel Date and LOCATION !
I am guessing here that your camera has been preset to Japan as the location, thus over-writing the Setup screen for Language

Let us know how you go :)

Hope this helps
Phil

I can't make out any icons in the menu. Can't find time or travel date or location. Everything is in Japanese. Panasonic has no customer support. What's a guy in Japan selling a camera in US that only displays Japanese? I was stupid for buying this.

Reset from Panosonic Support site:
LUMIX Compact (i.e. DMC-TZ100, DMC-FZ330, DC-TZ200)
  1. By rotating the Mode Dial, set the camera to [P], [A], [S] or [M] mode
  2. Next, by pressing the [Menu / Set] button, access the camera’s menu
  3. Navigate to [Setup] (spanner icon)
  4. Navigate to [Reset]
  5. Select [Yes] and press [Menu / Set] to confirm
Good luck. Maybe try Google Translate to see Japanese for "reset" (step 4)

All I can offer to your comment above is that 'sometime ago I purchased a new fone from one of the many internet sellers - to find the unit that arrived was totally in Chinese and Google was locked out from use'
Nothing like that was mentioned in the internet ad. and the seller (strangely) was somewhat uncommunicative once the sale had gone thru

I have to find out what the Spanner Icon looks like. I went thru the camera, GPS, troubleshooting icons and found no Language setting. But I did change the date and time zone to EST. In the GPS icon there's a map of the world and I chose Eastern USA but that didn't change Language in the camera. Maybe I'll take it to a camera shop but they're aren't any around here.

If you still cannot do what you want to from the information above, take the camera back to where you purchased it from.

If your Lumix is similar to mine, selecting languages is really easy, just two steps.

In the attached pix of my "vintage" Lumix, notice the "wrench/spanner" icon (left collumn) and a "speaking head" icon in the yellow strip (bottom).

IF YOU HAVE THOSE TWO ICONS you dont need to read Japanese, or Korean or Spanish etc etc.

Just click on the yellow strip and you will see either of the next two pix. Scroll to "English" and click on it.

If its a Japan market camera then wouldnt "Reset" return the camera to its market default language of Japanese ?

Round trip airfare to Japan might be more $$ than the camera is worth :-(

You havent posted any pix of the menus that youre trying to navigate, so youll either hafta DL the manual or visit a sushi bar.
