self portraits in the heat of the desert

a couple of pics i took of myself on an operation in iraq. i processed them in PS with help of a trial version of NIK's color effexs pro 3.0. i took the pictures with a canon powershot 1100is. tell me what you all think.

the top one is a little overdone in my opinion, but that bottom one looks pretty good. the graininess gives it somewhat of a film quality

I feel the reverse. The second one is a bit overdone, around the leftside edge of the face.

Keep at it though, and kicking ass in Iraq (just make sure you don't get caught with any crazy ass pictures on your camera).
