Self Portraits

I agree with SoonerBJJ, When the title of the thread is Self Portraits you already come in with some idea of what to expect and when you get those types of images you think one of two things 1. he is joking and or a troll or 2. he geniually thinks these are portraits and you have to correct him on what he needs to fix in said photographs to what you expect to see, and in all reality when someone covers their face and theres cords and laundry in the background you think myspace and facebook pics not portraits. Sorry thats my opinion

This isn't the Professional Photographers of America forum. Why are you so insulting? Just don't reply if you don't have enough grace or insight to give someone a crit. A critique doesn't mean to criticize the person. It is a critical look at a work of art. Or a critical estimate or discussion around ones work.

I'm not even the person you somewhat insulted. I don't care what you do here. I'm just glad there are other people on here who 'get it'. The forum is about helping each other grow as photographers. The vast majority of people come here to make contributions and to learn from others.

I think you are on a better track imo. This book is a must read for studio photography, it is what you are basically in doing in different locations, but the principles are steady.

Your results are going to seem very confusing until you can grasp how light behaves and how you can control it. You can do a lot with one light.

Read that book and follow the exercises. Really. It is illuminating on the physics of light and how it corresponds to photography. If you can understand the nature of light, you can then have it do your bidding.

Much better shot and shows some potential. Keep working at it and don't get discouraged by negative feedback. As with everything you have to take it with a grain of salt. (Including the glowing praise we sometimes get from our family)
I spent 3 hours last week in a studio trying to get the shot I wanted of a guitar. I never got it exactly. Maybe next time.
