serious problem with 40D

I just got my new flash card today..8gb extreme III

and I wanted to test it out by taking some high speed to see how much faster it is at writing than my old card.........and now it's stuck.

it took one picture..and now on the top LCD screen, the pictures left to shoot on card is flashing and the exposure bar is flashing..and i can't do anything..I can't turn it off..can't hold down the shutter..can't turn the LCD light on...and when I hold my ear up to the camera around the CF compartment I can hear it writing..or spinning atleast..i don't even know if CF cards have something spinning..hah..

the camera is a week old and i just got the card in the mail today.

so due to the fact that I am wasting battery as we speak..and I can't use the camera at all....

any help is GREATLY appreciated!

What about taking the battery out to shut it off, then replace the battery and fire it up?
