She Swings!!!

I took this shot and thought, "wow she's got great form in her swing!.' I could not help but look at the spectators so I decided to blur the image in post to put more focus on the batter... Plus I like the uniforms...

I'll admit I'm still a rookie learning to photograph sports events. So any advice/cc would be appreciated.. .

A little more refinement in your blur technique wouldn't hurt. I'd also try and time to have the ball just leaving the bat if possible, but overall, not a bad start.

I might have framed it a little more to the right to include the catcher instead of people in the background on the left side of the photo. That might have helped minimize the people on the bleachers a little and given a reference for what was happening at the plate. Or you could have tried framing vertically, to feature the batter with a little less of the bleachers.

There's not necessarily a right or wrong way as much as various ways a photo can be taken, and you seem to have gotten better at this - I notice you're now getting the players facing your way and getting the action better.

Ouch...I see the mods [well, at least one of them anyways!] are not above taking the occasional Canon vs Nikon potshot... yeah....a Canon 1Dx with a working shutter...

OP: I'd like to see it with "real depth of field"...not sure that the blurring is helping in this instance. But you know, the thing I have noticed the last few years, at sporting events, there are very often people yakking, cruising the web or FB on their cell phones, texting, taking selfies, and whatnot, even though the sporting action is RIGHT THERE in front of them at home plate...I find it distracting to see spectators gabbing and dinking around on cell phones and stuff while the batter is trying to smack that little round ball out of the park...

Timing is far more important than fps. If you have to blast off 20 frames on every swing, you're going to be shooting a lot of garbage.

Whew.. A lot of good advice here... Thoughts to ponder and definitely more picture to take... Thank goodness I still have another month of softballs games and now summer soccer to practice with... Thanks much...
