I am taking a new gig which will involve shooting an event at a nightclub. Can anyone tell me in Canon speak what equipment I would need? I am going to be one of many amateur photographers at the event.

Thanks in advance.

Well for starters, you will probably want to have at least a digital slr, a zoom lens or two, a flash and maybe a prime lens.

But that being said, the camera, flash and one lens will get you thru.
The faster the zoom lens such as a 24-70 f2.8 or a 70-200 f2.8 are both great lenses and fast, but both are pretty expensive (both cost over $1000)

You can find other zooms out there that have a wider range but arent as fast but are cheaper.

If you buy a prime lens such as a 50mm f1.4 and you already have a digital camera, you can shoot in almost any lighting situation which might be handy with what you are shooting.

Also buy a decent flash....that will help you out a lot as well.

Either way you will need to invest some money into your camera package.

yes, get a hotshoe flash of somesort.
then if you can't spend the $1000, try getting a prime or two (50mm, 30mm, or 85mm)

the 30 would be good for wide shots and the 50 is a cheap must have.
im sure you wont be so far away that you'd want the 85, but i dont know. :)
