Shooting through a screen

So I was recently in Florida, the hotel room where we stayed had a private Balcony, that was screened in (to keep bugs out and probably people in) I wanted to get some pics of the view from the Balcony but the screen was awful to try and shoot through, is there any way to shoot throughh this kind of medium and not have it show on the pic? Example picture below.

How close can you get to the screen? If you are really close (or the camera lens is) then you can make it just vanish into blur, basically. Not far enough away and you might get some artifacts, vague areas that seem to have the grid pattern, or loss of contrast in a grid pattern. Closer, and those go too.

This was taken through a metal fence made up of wire squares maybe 1.5cm in size. Can't see it though because the lens was up close and the bird a little further away...

The pic above the edge of the lens was touching the mesh and is one of the worst ones. the only way I could get it to blend was be straight on the mesh, but even then it showed up on the pic. I have done pictures through a normal Metal fence and was able to get the fence to blend without an issue, but this mesh was a nightmare

The larger your aperture the lower your DOF.
Get as close as you can and open up that aperture as much as possible.

Yeah, as Judobreaker says, you need to open up the aperture. In your case, however, this may not help in getting the image you want, as a smaller aperture may be required for the large DoF you need for the landscape.
