Ok, so I do not post many images here ... so I took a trip to the local zoo:

You can C&C if you wish.

To be honest, both pictures suffer from some terrible fogginess. Also, the grass in #2 is too distracting. :(

Regards,

Joe

I can't see any foggyness to these shots at all - however I suspect this might be an issue with viewing photos on an LCD screen. Most change the contrast considerably as the viewing angle changes; so unless you are looking at the screen dead straight the actual contrast will be modified - showing lighter if you're looking down at the screen and darker/more contrasty if you're looking up at the screen.

As I said I can't see any distinct foggy effect to these shots - if there was/is any then a contrast boost would solve the problem.

Overall I like them both, nice eye contact with the arctic fox, though I agree that the foreground grass is sadly ditracting - though when you're shooting animals in confined spaces you can oft shift a little for a slightly better angle if possible.

edit current, viewing on a very poor quality laptop screen so might well be seeing more contrast than some others

Yes, I did not have much choice about the foreground grass ... the Arctic Fox was running around a penned area (as it is a Zoo). The Fox was only in the log momentarily and did not go back in during the time I was there ... nor was I able to change my point of view (which is one of the limitations about shooting at a Zoo).

I could have cloned it out ... but I do not like to post process to alter objects.

If it was a few strands over the fox cloning wouldn't be much problem - but yes the grass is covering a large part of detailed log and the fox's paw so you'd not only have a lot of work but would probably a good chance of never rebuilding the paw details reaslistically.

I really like the lines in the first shot, and the expressions in both photos.
It is too bad about the grass in front of the fox, but it's not like you could have asked him to "hold that pose" so that you could fix it :)

I think these are over exposed, but isn't hard to fix. I like the composition of the shots. The Arctic Fox is nice, just seems a little out of place in bright sunny (hot) setting as opposed to icy environment.

Hmm, Ok.

Lets see what some more PP does based on your comments.

Tell me if the images have changed in your view.

Not sure about the first image. However it made the eyes more visible on the fox. If you have Lightroom I would open the image up in there and apply some sharpness. Maybe set it to 12 or 15. Then take the masking up to somewhere around 80 or 85. That way it will make the lines on the Fox's face and the edges around the log much more sharp. Just a thought. Over all I really love the image of the fox, grass or not. :)

Yes , the problem is simply the lack of contrast; i adjusted it in picasa by simply clicking on "i am feeling lucky" and the change was superb. what the images were missing was restored. So i request dxqcanada to attempt the same ;)
