Should I trust those flexable legged tripops?

I have a little folding tripod that folds up to about 5" long. It's great for my compacts. I wouldn't trust a DSLR on it though.

Justin clamps! That's the name of the clamps I mentioned earlier.

the only thing i see them suitable for is holding a speedlight if you're using some sort of wireless system

Do you mean gorillapods or justin clamps?

If you mean gorilla pods, then I agree.

I just got my gorillapod SLR zoom today in the mail... I gotta say, I'm kind of impressed.

I haven't actually USED it yet, but it's WAY sturdier than I expected and the construction is quite different... it's like a shoulder-joint kind of construction (for each nodule)... I almost wish I had a second one to deliberately tear apart.

I still can't see using it to wrap around a pole with my $1800 camera, but as a temporary tripod setup on the ground or the hood of my car...? Maybe.

I haven't tried it out yet, but when I do I'll let you guys know what I think.

yeah, gorillapods

I agree, it seems Gorillapods can be very useful for when you shoot with wireless flash guns. But not for dSLRs or even the bigger superzoom all-in-ones-with-battery-pack.
