Shutter Count

Does anyone know how a high shutter count affects your camera? Will it affect image quality or the speed and quick response of the shutter release between bursts? And can you get it repaired or is it like a cars mileage?

It usually only affects your camera by it either being dead or not.
It is certainly possible that it COULD slow down instead of just break, though.

Did you notice your camera being faster when it had lower shutter count? And does it seem mechanical in its slowness? Or more like software? (for instance, is the shutter sort of getting stuck / hanging? Or is it as snappy as ever but then the camera just sits there thinking?). If there is actual mechanical slowness in your shutter, then it should be VERY obvious insofar as all of your exposures should be wrong. Especially extremely fast shutter speed shots should be off if there's a mechanical issue.



Usually shutters are not worth repairing. Especially for your 1000D, if that's the problem. Would almost definitely cost as much as the camera. Sort of like your engine exploding in an older car.

Yes it was more responsive when new. The camera always displays Busy between shots. Im not sure if this is the flash preparing itself for another cycle.
Also one of my lenses is juddering and not zooming in and out. Can you tweak the zoom and focusing rings when the lens is switched to the autofocus setting or would this affect the lens?

Try with out the flash and if it still says busy between shots,change out the SD card for a new one,faster the better.

I didnt realise the SD card would make a big difference, so i may need a faster card that writes the image quicker allowing a better response between each image taken?

Several camera settings will negatively effect the burst rate the camera can shoot.

What make and model is the camera?

The file buffer in the camera is more likely than the SD card to be the limiting factor, unless you are shooting video.

Im shooting with a canon 1000D.
Would it be ok to purchase a full frame camera or am I taking too many steps ahead?

It is always ok however my humble opinion is that it really depends on what kind of photography you are wanting or interested in doing. I have two types of Digital SLR's: one being a FF (Canon EOS 5D mark I) for usage with wide angle lenses and the other one (Canon EOS 1D mark II N) with a crop factor for usage with telelenses. I bought both for an apple and an egg.
