Hamlet, it's good because it zooms AND it has a really wide aperture AND that aperture stays constant (the constant part is important for video in particular).
Yes, you can already buy a 35mm f/1.4. But it doesn't zoom AT ALL.
Or you can already buy basically the same range in, for instance, a Canon 16-35mm lens, but it only goes to f/2.8. (1.3 stops slower is a lot!).
This does it all at once and for a very reasonable $800ish price
I see. So its the quickness, versatility and price of this lens that is causing all this commotion. I will head to the local shop to see if this lens is really as good as people say it is.
