Sigma 70-200 f2.8 HSM any good?

Does anyone have experience with this lens? What do you think it is worth? Thoughts on buying it off Ebay?

I have seen great photos from the sigma and tamron. The sigma will focus faster and quieter than the tamron but is a little heavier. The tamron is a little sharper.

I can tell when a sigma lens is used in a photo. The colors are great. Don't be afraid of third party glass. They work wonderfully.

Its a great lens. On ebay, with lenses, 'mint' means some minor issues, and "minor cosmetic damage, lens in mint condition" means you probably shouldn't but it. I've been watching lenses for a long time on ebay and I have never came across someone who admits their lens has some scratches or dust.

Sigma 70-200 f2.8 HSM AND Sigma 24-70 f2.8 HSM

Would you opt for the 2 sigma's over the 1 Nikon?

I have both of those Sigmas. You won't be disappointed. Make sure you get the Sigma 24-70 HSM, not the older one. The 24-70 never leaves my camera (except football games). Its sharp and focuses very quickly.

I had the same exact question.... in the process of thinking which one to get to pair up with the d7000!!!

The Sigma 70-200 HSM MACRO is a bit slow on focus, so if you are using it for sports make sure you are getting the Sigma 70-200 f/2.8OS. Everything HERE is shot with it.
The Tamron is also a macro lens and is VERY slow to focus compared to even the Sigma Macro. It's a great lens. I just posted some basketball photos shot with it for someone else in post # 14 here. It's so slow to focus that I couldn't shoot anything as they ran up and down the court, I had to stick to the baskets. If you are shooting portraits, weddings, landscapes... anything not fast moving with it it's a great lens. The Sigma OS is sharper.
