This is one of the first shots I have ever taken almost a year ago, I opened it today and processed it.
I think this is a successful shot albeit slightly underexposed.

I'm on a different monitor now, and I see what you mean. On my home computer it isn't this bright at all. When I get home I'm going to check my calibration.

I love the composition. Do you have the RAW file and Lightroom (or some similar software)? Maybe you can pull down the brightness of whatever color is in the background of the original color image. (I'm assuming it's a digital image. )

I brought the background down about a 1/2 stop here, I'm back on my home computer, and the background is not blown out at all like it is on my brothers monitor. I'm checking my monitor now.

Very nice. I like this better. (Of course it's such a matter of personal taste, who can say what's better. )

My monitor seems to be good. The second edit seems very grey.
