WHY that location? The combination of green & brown background with the green line right at the top of the head is very visually 'jarring' to me. I like the lighting, and the expression is cute & happy, but...

Could have been a brilliant shot without that greeny thingie at the head. Beautiful child -- with a very nice expression. Can you just lift up the child digitally and put another background to your shot? or selectively select the green background and use selective colouring to change it?

Thats why I posted here, you guys rock at pointing out my failures! I've been trying to focus more on my backgrounds and surroundings. I figured a green background would of been better than a blown out sky.

Here's another one, this one kinda just happened.

Mom was trying to handle a fussy baby, he started laughing. We were walking to the next spot and I hurry and jumped at this opportunity.

He doesn't look like a newborn to me..... my newborns certainly couldn't lift their heads like that and smile for a picture. Oh wait sorry, that has nothing to do with photography. ;)

I like the picture of him with his mama. Very sweet.

Why not use some fill light and have a correctly exposed sky and child?

I'm goin to chalk that one up to being 'lazy'. I didn't feel like dragging the strobe kit out, it was an extremely hot day and I wasn't feeling my best (health wise). So I went natural light and I refuse to use on camera flash as I hate the effect it gives.

You live, you learn. Time for an assistant haha

Heres the original! You can see the daddy behind him holding him :) lol

However, that doesn't make for such great shot, so I removed him.

Even though dad's back there the pose looks a bit awkward, would have been better maybe with his hands down supporting himself (the way kids that age often sit with their hands on their knees/legs) and something other than that blanket being sort of bunched. I thought the wall looked a little crooked but since it's stone can't really tell, I think I might like it shot a bit tighter. You got some great expressions, looked like he was having fun.

Right. Newborns are babies from birth to four weeks. Babies can hold their heads at three months and can sit at six...

Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan... you need to seriously think more about your settings.

Also, all these shots feel very distant and removed. Aren't baby shots often in closer? More personal? So we can go AWWWWWWWW???
