What's new

So nervous I'm shaking!

shoot RAW! and go WIDE!

Are you doing this for free?

WHY?????? I know you do not have experience and all but still, you will NEVER get out of the circle of free.... IMO, if they are going to use the photos to make MONEY they need to compensate you as well....

They could compensate her with name recognition. It would not be wise to monetize her photography this early on in her photographic understanding. It would probably lead to a lawsuit. Just sayin'.

gag... I hate the "you will get great exposure/free advertising" line..... I just think it is wrong, to use her pictures for profit without compensating her.... Been there/done that and I can tell you it will NOT lead to more business... you will be the chic that did the pictures for free for so and so...

Just because you/she/whoever has a camera doesn't mean they "deserve" money for their time. She's getting experience out of the deal, which at this point, is much more valuable than $.

She could also be that chick that charged money for crappy pictures. I'm sure that will help her get more biz.

BTW...not saying that you will take crappy pictures. You just have no experience at this point, so even you don't know what you are getting yourself into.

I agree it is GREAT experience.... but again, if they are using the photos to make money I think she should be compensated as well. Obviously he is not going to hire a "pro" since the realtor usually uses his point and shoot, so do you think he is really going to try to get others to hire her?

I will bow out now, I hope it goes well and you get the experience you are looking for. :)

I am assuming the poster lives in a house. She can get free experience with her own home.... just sayin'

What I'm saying is... I don't think she NEEDS a huge amount of business right now, she's just learning how to use her camera. When she's ready to start charging, that will be a discussion she will have with her clients.

If the OP doesn't have a contract done up, has never done RE photography before, and doesn't have proper equipment to do so, money changing hands will only complicate things and probably end poorly. Sorry, that's the truth.

Everyone starts somewhere. I started shooting for free to get my name out there, and after a certain point when I was confident enough in my skills/equipment I started charging. I don't think the OP is ready for that.

Not all homes are the same. There can be a ton of variables and wildcards when shooting architectural or RE photography.

Just sayin'.

be really good practice (in her own house!) too! lol!

I agree with everyone. Dont charge until you are ready, but then again don't not charge and let people take advantage of you. Just be clear with your "friend" to NOT tell his other realtor buddies so and so took my photos for free.... This needs to be known to him or believe me, he will bragging saying oh look at these great pictures for FREE.

If he was doing it with a point and shoot, he probably isn't too terribly worried with image quality/composition. It sounds like he just wants a visual representation of the condo to put in the ad. Good luck, and start readin up about lighting and real estate photography if they really are going to hire you!

Why just not charge something that reflects her experience? She doesn't need to make much, but some sort of symbolic amount of money to show that it isn't charity nor professional work.

In my own humble opinion, getting experience out of the deal should not be the major wage. Experience is nice on a personal level and as an "added bonus", but I wouldn't be happy knowing that hours of work only gave me experience. Again, the OP can charge something that reflects her level of experience. And unless there's a contract of sorts, she can't be sued. And if there is a contract, just make sure not to sign something that you know you aren't able to follow quality-wise.

Well said, Compaq. I agree completely.

So what would you suggest she charge for her experience level???
