Can others edit my Photos
Photos OK to edit
open a business where all you do is edit other peoples amateur photo's. what kind of laws would you have to worry about, would you have the rights to sell them the edit, would you you be able to post it elsewhere, would it be your's or their's?

Guessing it would be theirs. Contact a small business attorney, and a and copyright attorney.

You would need a contract to settle those issues. Normally editing a photo would be a violation of the photographer's copyright, so permission to edit the photo is one of the items that would need to be in your contract. It would probably be best to charge for the editing service/time in the contract rather then even getting into the issue of who owns the edit. Permission for you to post the edit should also be in the written contract.

Jeez, how many times have I posted this link www.copyright.gov and copyright violation is federal case.

Plus, how would you make enough money to sustain the business.

You would be offering a service, and would have no rights to usage of the photos in their original or edited form unless you specified that term in a contract with the owner of the image. You would be selling your time, not taking ownership of the source material.... if you want rights to the image, pre or post edit, you would have to purchase the image from them, and get permission to distribute an altered version of that image. Even if you do purchase an image, it is common to have restrictions placed on the distribution of the image.

Let's say I hire you to edit an image for me... It's a high quality image and needs some post processing to make it more vibrant and give it more contrast... perhaps some element of the image needs to be removed to clean the image up.... So you edit the image and you do a lousy job and it looks terrible (to me... I'm fussy and don't like how you've manipulated the image). Then you post that image on a website and give photo credit to me, without mentioning the specific process that you have used to edit the original, and you don't show the original for comparative purposes... What do you think happens next if you haven't purchased exclusive rights to that image and all usage there of?....

yeah i was going top make a contract, i dont think i will support myself fully with just this, and i dont plan on doing high qyuality edits for now... the whole editing thing is only until i get a better computer, and can actually edit high res images... as soon as i get this computer i will do full photoshoots

however i i dont need the money now im still in highschool so i can put almost all of it to the computer

i also p[aln on dealing with high school kids... so i dont predict many problems of the legal variety

Don't forget that those high school kids have parents, which could necessitate rethinking your naive supposition, " so i [sic] dont [sic] predict many problems of the legal variety"

What makes you think you will make money from this  this is as bad as someone buying a camera to shoot a wedding the next day and never used a camera before
