Softbox into stripbox

I looked on the net to see if anyone ever did a temp mod on a SB to turn it into a strip box. Anyone ever do this? Does it change the quality at all?

Do you mean just blocking the light on the front of the box,or physically changing the shape of the box?

I have a 24x36 sb. Let's say I cover half of it with a dark piece of fabric.

Sure man.
I use black foam core board all the time to do stuff like that,and with a few pieces you can shape it any way you like.
It may affect the output a little,but not the quality.

Yes.

You can also make a nice round-aperture mask to turn a square or rectangular box into a round source, when a round eye catchlight is desired.
