The New Brighton Fireworks got delayed a day to yesterday night.
I took the D90 out and after messing with the lenses a little I decided to stick with the prime. In hindsight I should have gone back a bit further but there was a lot of people and I'm lazy.

You can hit my flickr for all 8 I decided were kinda worth posting, these are shot RAW, not cropped and I think mostly 800ISO, 35mm f9, a couple were even hand held.

I think number 2 is the only true keeper I got, but I was really impressed with the video I took with the D90 for sure.

Besides increasing the exposure time (and backing up a bit with a prime) any advice for fireworks?

what where your exposure times? and other settings? most are out of focus did you use a tripod?

moving back a bit would be good Idea and cropping these would help also. all 3 would work better with a vertical crop

For me, fireworks are one of those things better enjoyed than photographed. They never seem to result in a stunning still image.

Just my pretty pennies.

Ive seen quite a few amazing images of fireworks, it just takes patience and long exposures and a good tripod with remote shutter. any motion in the camera, tripod etc will kill the shots

this one is not too bad, needs a better crop though

Oh snap, no they're in focus, I was manual focused as, you know, black sky etc, but I didn't sharpen coming out of aperture. Oh well, they look a bit nicer with the sharpen in place.

I would agree with the vertical cropping, I ended up taking the camera off the tripod to film some video so I didn't have it set up vertically.

the exposures range from 2 seconds to .8 of a second, which I realized was too short but I had fun taking the shots :)

forget trying to hand hold any image over 1/40 second. the brighter the object the more stable your shooting has to be.
