Just a few more birdies. Still just reeling with amazement with the Nikon system . I've never gotten a decent Purple Finch shot in my life.
Thanks for looking.

Nice set, good shooting!

Thank you very much. I did very much keep in mind what you said ( in my other thread ) about keeping the whites at bay . Admittedly, the Cardinal is in a much better light for this one, but I was very cautious about not blowing the whites on the others.

I normally don't like to shoot when the sun is high and super bright in early afternoon, the colors just get washed and it's hard to eliminate the hot spots. Mornings are what I like best and late afternoons an hour or two before sundown when the light is softer. These look much better.

Were you using another camera system before switching to Nikon?

  • What camera and lenses you using?

I have a D5600 and just the 2 kit lenses -18-55 and the 70-300; both VR and a film era 50mm F1.2 we'd been using on the Pentax systems. We'd been thinking about switching about a year. Trolling Amazon, this kit came up ( all new ) for a steal so we pulled the trigger.
I have some excellent Takumars we've collected over the years, and we're just waiting on the adapters to arrive.
But yea, since she's arrived I've been doing all the bird stuff with the 70-300mm

Yes sir. Pentax. Started with my dad's old SP1000 a little after high school. Upgraded to digital mid 2000's with a K10, kept that + got a K20. When they released the K7 we got one right away.

Been using the K7 until the Nikon arrived around mid May this year.
My dad got a d3500 last year, and I played with with for a few days, that was a factor as well, as we'd already been thinking about switching.

I dunno if it's been mentioned I haven't read all the posts but it might be better to post the images at the full permitted size as I know many don't like having to click to see the full sized image, particularly if there are a few.

The only crit of the images I can offer is that they are too central on the frame. In image like these I'd generally have more 'dead' space' to the side of the frame into which the subject is facing. This slight adjustment always gives a better composition and gives the effect of the subject looking into the frame as opposed to out of it. Just my thoughts like.
