That is my flickr account, please critique me. I want to improve.

For best results, choose 2 - 4 images and post them in the thread; most people aren't going to follow links. In general, the skin tones seem too hot and there are lots of "little bits" missing such as finger tips.

I love the eyes on number 2. On second look I'm not sure how I feel about quite that much of her head being chopped off, but I had to look really closely to notice, as her eyes just captivate my attention right from the get go.

Yes, "brain amputation" is the label given to that type of portrait crop and it is frowned on by many portrait photographers.

I like the low key approach in shot #1, but I would like too have seen a little more seperation from the background. It is my favorite shot tho.

I like #2...the "focus" as I *see* it is the eyes. The top of the head might have been too much, so I'm good with it. I like all of them but in the the last one arm is odd and if it were not there it should not be a distraction and the smile and the face and the hair accent would have been the photo. I like the mystery in #1 too, but I think I'd like it better with a bit wider circle of light on the top left. Not a lot, just a tiny bit to open up a fade a bit. Keep going, you enjoy the subjects and the departure from ordinary and seem to be accomplishing it well. I enjoy that too!

I think they're good, but try not to crop so much. You have to be really careful about what you let in and out with portraits. I like the fourth, the cropping seems perfect to me.

Leave the mask intact on your crops. Otherwise, you do have the brain amputation.

I think what might be improved for the first couple is the post-processing. I'm guessing you tried to make the skin smoother? Might not want to use quick methods like blurring to edit your skin, or else it doesn't turn out very nice in print. ^^

Two has background problems which visually distract, although the eyes and expression really draw the attention of the viewer.

Number 4 needs basic work on the skin to smooth it out a little. Even Pamela Anderson uses make-up to reduce visual emphasis on her freckles.

Shot number 1 is great, What did you use for editing? Also what was the lighting set up?
