Two pictures. Nearly Identical settings. White Lightning monolight camera left triggered with cybersyncs. I was always under the impression the max sync was 1/200 on a D90 but these shots were fired 1/400. Why was this working? When I try it inside the house I get frame black out on nearly half the frame.

God, I am slow. It was the ambient exposure picking up where the strobe couldn't sync.

I believe it will say that regardless since it was fired by a radio trigger. You can see from the picture that it did fire.

Eric is correct. It will only say Flash fired if your hooked up to TTL or on camera. Not even sure if TTL registers.

I believe it is the ambient. Try a small aperture, enough the kill the ambient should see the half darken photo.

You can kind of see on the back tire where the flash just "begins". It was a bare strobe so it shouldn't be like that.

I was going to say - the bottom half of both shots looks identical.

Middle of the crank case is where the shutter is coming across the frame and not allowing the flash exposure to hit the sensor.

You can cheat like this though. If you need a faster shutter speed, position you subject where the flash will hit them and shoot. Afterwards, crop the photo.
