Sorry a good deal ?

On craigslist there is a canon eos 700 film camera with a 35-70 lens and vivitar 2800 flash for 50.00 I was thinking I could use the lens and flash off camera with my xt. What do you guys think?

Price sounds reasonable; I'd still try and talk them down to closer to $40. Will that lens mount on your APS-C body? I thought there was a difference in mounts, (EF / EF-S) but I don't speak much Canon.

The lens will mount since the Rebel take both EF and EF-S mount lenses.
As for using the flash as off camera flash, I don't think I will use that flash unless it is capable of adjusting the flash power manually.
