Split Lighting - Sefl Portrait

Just mucking about this morning.

The first image is what most folks would assume for split lighting from what I've seen on the forum. I did use my difusser as a bounce off the main light.

Then I added a background light with a red gel and added the white/silver striped cover to my difusser.... AND THE HAT!​

I dunno, what do you think? Not enough of a ratio in the second?​

I like #2; I'd be tempted to drop the key by 1/3 of a stop.

I do think that there is not enough of a ratio in the 2nd (too much fill). Usually, when I think of split lighting, we're talking dramatic lighting...and a soft ratio seems to go against that.

I'm with tirediron on dropping the key. I'd also drop the overall ISO for better saturation and maybe use an 81a filter.

ISO was 200...the camera's native (lowest) ISO.

A 2 stop ND brings it to 50.

A minor thing in any case, the key's too bright.
