STAR PHOTOGRAPHY!!!

Hello, I just had some question about capturing stars; this weekend I'll be going camping (Lake Chelan, WA) and HOPING to see some beautiful stars; believe there is a small city around but they should be visible later in the night. But I don't have any professional grade equipment (Will bring a Nikon D3100, 18-55mm, 35mm f/1.8, 55-200mm f/4-5.6 (necessary for stars??) shutter cable, and tripod).

I'm trying to for got a shot with city lights reflecting on the lake and a nice blue sky with stars and maybe a panorama as well (will use PS to stitch). I would prefer a shot similar to this...(shot by Adam Steenwyk [flickr:absencesix])​

So just a few questions...
1) In general what shutter speed, aperture, ISO would be recommended (I would like to take shot with star trails and still stars as well)
2) Which lens should I use, 18-55mm, 35mm f/1.8, or 55-200mm f/4-5.6
3) stick with one shot or panorama?

Also any advice would be nice, this is the first time shooting stars, it seems to be quite difficult; I did some research but would prefer you guys' input!

16 mm - 120.0 sec at f/5.6, ISO 400
Manual mode @ 0 EV E.C - Pattern metering - no flash

16 mm - 3600.0 sec at f/11, ISO 100
Manual mode @ 0 EV E.C - Pattern metering - no flash
