I went for a hike the other day and found some pretty cool stuff. I needed Rotanimod's help to get some whimsical shots, but I looked around and he wasn't there. :(

Looks like a very interesting place....like the ice

Ah, I did the frozen waterfall in feb about a decade ago...back with film. I did a full roll of black and white and color. I was always more partial to Matthiessen state park myself. I should shoot it again digital...god knows where my film went! your shots are nice!

Did you ever read the book Starved Rock Murders? That's how I even found out they had a waterfall that freezes! :) grew up 40 min from there too

I think you are too tight on the falls and thus lose some of the "size".

I did read the book. Very interesting. They just denied parole for him again. It was funny, because I think about the murders and then I hiked about 1 mile (by myself) back into the St. Louis Canyon and started shooting. I didn't know anyone else was hiking behind me, because I didn't see anymore cars by the trail parking. Then all of the sudden 2 people came up behind me and said hi and I nearly peed my pants. I couldn't hear them walking up behind me, because the waterfall was so loud. I am taking my dogs with me next time. :)

Soo funny! I know though, it's a mile of rarely travelled trail, especially in winter. Next year I plan on going, so maybe I'll give you a heads-up and we can both go. My husband refuses to "hike" as he's Tanzanian and you just don't go hiking on your own here in tanzania...you know, lions, rhinos, etc. I tried to tell him there's no real dangerous animals to be concerned with around there...a week later my mom told him a black panther was reportedly seen in bureau county. That pretty much killed any hiking concessions from him.

I didn't hear that. OMG. That is so funny. Yeah, there goes your chances, and if only people would stay ON the trails that would be good. BTW, I got your PM and I am just checking on my liability policy and I will get back to you. I do have a permanent second shooter, but I am sure I could help in some way.

Beautifal as usual. Never got to that park. Always ended up the other way at Turkey Run state park.

Thank you old hippy. Maybe I will have to check out Turkey Run state park next.

It's always hard to second guess the vision of the OP. This might be darker than the original scene but to get some of the other tonal vlaues and colors to go where I thought they needed to go, I had to give the whole image a bit of a heavy-handed nudge. Who knows, eh?

I just noticed I didn't crop the bottom at the right place...hahahaha, silly me.

If you go to Turkey Run state park, there is a swingin bridge about 100 ft long ove the little river/creek. If you go down on the bank of the river there a plenty of kroinoids.little prehistoric fossels. look like a bunch of chereeo's stuck together. There is also canoe rental, fun place great campsites.

Kathy, could you number your images when you post more than one or two. This makes it a lot easier for folks to review them if they have a number to refer to. Thanks.

Sorry westernguy, I has having technical difficulties. Normally I number them. I know it is annoying. :)
