Step down ring question

Any down side to using step downs? From 72mm to 52. I dont mind buying mutliple filter, just more for me to lose or break! I was wondering if it affects over all photo quality.

I always forget which one is which. but if you're trying to put a bigger filter on your lens, that's fine. if you're trying to put a smaller one on...that's probably a bad idea in most cases because you'll bet vignetting.

mounting a 72mm to a 52mm lens should be no problem at all.
