I was cleaning up my 50mm lens yesterday when I noticed that there appeared to be specks of dust and even a hair inside my lens. I cleaned both sides and it is definitely INSIDE the lens. WTH?? I've only had the lens a year and otherwise it is in perfect condition and looks brand new. How in the hell did it get in there? It appears to be a very fine hair and I haven't done any test pics to see if it shows up in my pictures. Is this something I should be concerned about even if it doesn't show up?

1. Nikon lenses purchased in the U.S. have a 3-year warranty.

2. If the photos are not affected, then clearly this is a non-problem.

It is a Canon lens (50mm 1.8). I saved every receipt and religiously filed them in my filing cabinet. LOL. I can dig out the papers and check out any warranty information. I just wasn't sure what I should do, if anything. I'll do a some test shots later. Thanks!

The 50mm 1.8 is notorious for shotty build quality (it is plastic after all). Finding dust in it after a year is pretty common. Usually it won't effect your pictures though.

Thank you nicfargo. I don't want to mess with warranty stuff and I suspected that if it happened once, it would happen again with a replacement. Now that I know what to expect, I will be more careful to keep it in my bag at all times when it's not on the camera. Sadly, the lens is so cheap that it's probably not worth it to have it cleaned anyway. At least I can buy another one if it gets worse over the next few years.
