Or perhaps we could use simple pointing diagrams in case asking or learning is just too much for the little dears.

Lew, sorry but, can you explain a bit more? I don't understand this. I use Canon.

and Canon users don't use a view finder .. they just shoot and spray :)

Lets get this back on track.

I don't think pandering to people help them grow. I can't be bothered to donate my time and knowledge to someone who isn't willing to do any work on their end. I am not your personal googling machine.

Ok if we can't get a new cat can we have a dog? We need something to keep all the bunnies under control.

Again, it's a huge assumption on your part that they aren't willing to work or grow. Which might be a more reasonable assumption if we had a huge group of newbies demanding such a thing - but as far as I can tell we haven't. I think most of us that have been here for a while can pretty much spot the folks that are interested in learning and growing as photographers and the folks that want everything spoon fed to them, generally it's fairly obvious in the first post or two.

But I'm just not seeing how having the suggested feature really changes any of that. It's a handy little tool that just makes giving someone an explanation of certain things less time consuming. I'd be able to just type DOF instead of typing DOF, and then adding a sentence in to explain what DOF means so that I can be sure I'm being clear.

This assumption that this will somehow completely destroy anyone's willingness to learn.. well frankly it's a Non sequitur.

You are forgetting the part that everyone who posts on this forum has access to the internet which has the most information every amassed in human history at their finger tips. It's faster to google something than it is to start a thread on here to ask a question. It's just lazy behavior.

Now if someone says "I looked up DOF and have some questions about it's applications", sure I will be more willing to help. This at least shows some interest on their part.

Then by that token whenever anyone asks a question here we should all berate them and demand that they run off and google it instead. Or maybe you can just ignore anyone that asks "What is DOF" and help the folks that ask, "I looked up DOF and have some questions.." and let those of us who don't mind answering the "What is DOF" question to handle those. Wow.. problem solved! Win win.. synergy dance.

Personally I think anyone that has taken the time to come out to the web, find the message forum, sign up for it and post a question deserves the benefit of the doubt when it comes to "how much interest" they've shown.
