suggestions for a flash unit..

hi guys i am looking to buy a flash unit for my d40 ...i am a complete beginner when it comes to flash photography....i am ok with a non-dedicated flash when it can save lots of money...also i want a polarizer 52 mm....what's the best price range for this one?? also my budget is around $200-250? (am i being a cheap ass??)

Nikon SB-400 has served my very well, otherwise the SB-600 if you can swing it.

Most people would get the SB-600 if given a choice, and that's the route I went first as well. In fact I got two of them... then got an SB-400, lower power, no swivel and smaller.

I hardly ever used the SB-600's again, so I sold them.

For me, the SB-400 is 95% of what I need in a flash - but most of my shots are around the house.

this seems perfect for me...and even the price....thanx...but i have got one question...i can control it through my d40 right?...and what's I-TTL ?
