I got tickets to go to a Club World Cup match in Japan. It might be Barca playing and I wanna get some decent pics of the action on the pitch. Specialy since Messi will be playing (Lets face it the man is a god with a football at his feet.) My question is using a 5D with a 300mm f4 going to be good enough for me to capture the teams in action? Stadium is an indoor stadium so lighting will be good and planty i presume. Anyone got some ideas for settings ie ISO and App?

Don't plan on the lighting being "good and plenty" for taking photos. If you can try renting a faster lense for your trip.

You probably better check the venue and see if you can bring your gear without a press pass. Most professional venues aren't going to let you in with professional gear and no press pass.

If it's truly a well lit stadium you will be fine with your gear. Shutter will need to be 1/640 at the absolute minimum, but somewhere around 1/1000 will be better to keep that motion blur out of there. The rest of the settings will all depend upon the ability to keep that shutter speed fast enough

Good points MLeek, I thought the same thing when I read the post. Some have restrictions on the focal length. As far as exposures, why not just decide when you are there, I assume that you know how to use your gear well enough to shoot a frame, look at the image and do it until you get it right. As far as the gear goes, if you have decent seats close enough to the field, it's fine, if you are sitting at the top of the stands, it won't. 500th will stop action, 640 is better, just use the iso to get you to that point and enjoy the game.
