Well, the clouds look neat contrasted against the darkened sky, but my mind wants to see more surroundings in order to have some sense of context.

Agree -- this is a great background for some other subject. You just need to find that subject.

I think sky shots themselves are great and don't mind just seeing clouds. Sure, this would make an awesome backdrop, but I think it looks amazing with the contrast and all of that texture. Nice shot!

I appreciate the comments, but the clouds ARE the subject. I understand that's not for everyone and that's all right. I love some cloud shots. Nobuyoshi Araki, one of my favorite photographers, has some great shots of just beautiful skies with not a bit of ground in sight. (yes, he does shoot things other than naked women) I guess that's some of my inspiration with shots like this.
