What do you think? Should I sell my Nikkor 35mm f1.8 to get the 17-55mm 2.8?

hmmm, know the 17-55mm on a DX body is killer. Tempting....You can always do what you are thinking, let it make you some money and pick up a another lens later.

All depends on the venue really. If you are shooting events and don't want to be swapping out primes 17-55 is great to have.

Shoot well, Joe

I love mine. It's been on the camera most of the time lately. However, I do still like my 35mm too and wouldn't want to be without it. I'd try to keep the 35 and save up for the 17-50mm. The 35mm does focus a lot faster, especially in demanding situations.

My plan was to get the 17-50 and sell my 50mm f/1.8 but the the copy I got didn't work out on my D7000. So I held on a little longer. Then I got a Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 and I love it. I think I sold my 50mm the next day.

You are doing it backward :). Dump your zooms and buy primes!

As much as I like my z00ms, my 50 1.4 has been on my camera nonstop, plus Macro prime = win.
I like my tamron 17-50 alot, use it really more everything other than macros and portraits.
I don't have a 35 1.8, but I sold my Nikon 50 1.8 for my tamron 17-50 before I bought my Nikon 50 1.4G.

There are no right or wrong in this case. The 2 lenses are made for different purposes. You just need to figure it out if you need them or not.

Co-signed.

Do you ever been in situation where the area is too tight that you need 17mm? If not.... I would save up for another prime, like the 85mm.

Is there a Tammy 17-55? They must give Nikon the extra 5mm, lol. Sure works great in K mount- the only zoom I actually use a lot.
