Tamron 28-300 non VC

I went to a local shop and they are selling a used Tamron 28-300 non VC for $150. Dont know anything about it...i do outdoor/indoor portraits, is this lens a good buy? I have a T1i. I cant find any good reviews online for the non vc version. What kind of quality can I expect, and what types of photography are best use for this lens?

Eh. It's a consumer grade mega zoom. Personally? Other than for my kids I wouldn't buy it. You can't really find any good reviews on it because it's not a hot lens...
You are compromising when you buy consumer grade and again when you buy mega zoom. To cover that much zoom the elements have to work together across the whole zoom. In order to do that you compromise on the sharpness/clarity and often on the vibrance of the color it produces.
If you are into the softer look for portraits it will do a decent job. The f/ will be prohibitive indoors at any amount of zoom unless you are using flash.
