This is part of my effort to post as many pictures as I can to encourage discussion of pictures without an emphasis reliance on technical issues.
The problem is that the language of liking/disling usually falls back on the technical 'mistakes' rather than weakness of seeing and constructing.

Yes, I think that is a reflection from somewhere, perhaps the table top - and I can't do much, if anything about it.

I'll add another picture to make up for that.
I've posted this before, I think, but I edited it a bit and like it better now.

(PS, if anyone wonders why I am constantly making spelling mistakes, I have no real excuse, except that when I went to school there was no standard spelling for anything.)

I like this one because it's all people, end to end and since they are dressed the same it creates a pattern. Also the subject, the monks, is interesting.

what would make it better in my eyes is if the young monk further back, the one that's holding the black bowl, was within the depth of field. His position, posture, and the fact you can see most of him makes him fairly dominant.

do you believe it would be a less interesting photograph if it was of a teacher in a classroom local to you, such as your nearby elementary school? Or perhaps a nearby catholic school? I like the photo. I do believe that many photos we like, we favor them because they are foreign to us in nature, thus provoking a degree of interest. Human inclination for curiosity, sometimes warranted sometimes not.

I think this picture is interesting, aside from any artistic elements it might have, just because it creates a comparison between any memories of our own classroom we might have and the same object expressed in a different way.

Here is an Akha woman (in northern Laos) who was totally fascinated with a collage of my grandchildren. (I carried a bunch on any trips)

The room has too many parallel lines that become a dominating feature here. You need a much larger/ brighter subject to properly balance that. To me this image is unbalanced. The guy is too small and insignificant and his movement is kind of predetermined by these lines. The fact that he is a teacher does not help either. What do you want to say with this image? That this teacher is a prisoner of .. what? His job? His teaching? His religion? In essence this is a portrait of a teacher who's way of thinking is very one-dimensional and there is no one around who is willing to listen to him. That is what I draw from this picture.
