An interesting dichotomy between a somewhat pristine piece of barber pole memorabilia and the holder and brick wall. While I really like the shot, I found there were too many little distractions on the smooth wall and the pole casement which kept tugging my eye away from the simplicity of the two textural elements of the piece.

I agree. I tried all sorts of angles and viewpoints to try and simplify that shot, but didn't find a way...obviously. What got me started was the fact that it was next to the door of an old fashioned Barber Shop, and the barber had someone in the chair in front of the large shop window. I really wanted to get that pole and the shop front with him working on a customer. But my brilliance in planning let me forget my polarizer in the other bag and so the reflections on the window killed the shot. That was when I started zeroing in on the pole. Oh well! said the Master of Zen!

Ny thought to. but when I tried it no matter how I worked it it looked like a gradient layer had been put on it from right to left. Those vertical lines separate vertical areas of different shadings. So concluded that the color version actually brought out the pole more.
