If you find content you think is advertising or breaking the rules in any way - use the report feature (small triangle symbol with a ! in the middle in the lower left corner of every post). Simply fill in your view/details and let the mods/admin decide if its pushed past the boundaries.

In general contributing members are allowed a level of leniency in advertising on the forums - its something we take on a case by case situation and, normally, only tends to extend to them showing a link in their signature to their commercial website. On the odd occasion they might also post some kind of freebie/promotional event/material to the site as well. Normally we let things slide when the member is or has been a generally active and contributing member to the community.

When the line is crossed is something the mods/admin decide upon (mods generally, but if admin step in their view overrules mods).

If you reviewed the OP's posting history or have been on here longer than three months, you'd know this was much more than a "hey, come look at my kewl product you can buy". What's the matter, buddy? Things slow up in the ivory tower? Did you give the minions the night off or something?

advertisement: noun. a notice or announcement in a public medium promoting a product, service, or event or publicizing a job vacancy

The word "advertising" is incredibly broad, and most definitely covers this.

Can you please remove your signature since it's an advertisement? I'm offended that you're using this medium to tout your product and feel you are purposely skirting the TPF rules for advertisement.

I am actually not a moron, and I have observed that, yes. I am pretty sure it's entirely within the rules of TPF?

But I don't. I just thought it was lame to write a post saying "This isn't an ad, I'm just super excited" and then write what was clearly intended, in part, as an ad. If I though it was an important rules violation, I would already have reported it, and I'm not all that in to "rules" anyways.

Honestly, it's like I am talking in to space sometimes. I write this stuff down, and it's like nobody's reading it.

This may BE an advertisement, in the strict definition of the word. But it's not ABOUT advertising a product--it's not a shameless plug; rather, it's the inventor sharing the newest stage of his journey. And, since what he is "inventing"--or creating--is photography related, it seems only reasonable that he would share that journey with photographers.

I don't think I ever saw the original taped version (if I did, I've forgotten it), but I applaud the entrepreneur spirit on display here. I'd love to see how it progresses, and how this things performs once you've got a finished product.

Oh, and even if this WAS an ad--I find it FAR less offensive to tell me it's not an ad when it is, than to tell me (or strongly imply) that a posted photo is your own when it's not. But that's just me.
