What's new

The Coffee House

@Sharon I think they said that Sir Elton was on tour and it didn't work into his schedule to be able to perform at the coronation concert. The others, I don't know...

@cgw I thought you meant Jared the diamond/jewelry store! and was like - what?? I didn't think Greenland was very inhabitable, but apparently it took centuries? for sea level to change enough for the Vikings to leave. And we do have dams and levies and locks etc. on rivers at least nowadays to adjust for water levels.

Does anybody watch Oak Island? It's fascinating some of what they've found. They keep finding artifacts like a little cross that seem to keep leading back to Templar Knights. There sure is something down there where they're digging; indications of gold and silver that wouldn't exist naturally and shouldn't be there. Now I'll have to wait til next season to see what else they find!

I’ve seen a couple earlier episodes. MLSIL watches it and wants to take the ferry to Nova Scotia from Maine and visit the island.

Hi all . Oak island
Rebecca and I used to follow each and ever episode they alway seemed to find enough to keep them coming back for another year
Never seemed to find the main treasure. We god fed up after 6 or 7 seasons . Can’t bear to watch now as it was something we both made time to sit and watch together with or with out a glass or two

Eww, Smoke! I actually get a water quality report every year

We lived on the water for 25 years. When we moved there housing was sparse, over the years, construction snapped up most all of the prime land for housing. Across the water from us was a large flat peninsula of mostly red clay, it remained empty of housing because the soil would not pass a perc test for a septic tank. Developers convinced the county with shoddy engineering reports that if they put 12" of good soil on top of the clay it would supoort a septic system. Wasnt long before the same thing happened all along the river, then the rains came. The clay was a hard barrier that water wouldn't penetrate, as the top 12" became water saturated, when people flushed, the water had no where to go but up. They've since changed the regulations and gone in to require more fill on existing locations, or require sewer system.

Now, as I said the weekly water quality reports are generally good. Occasionally we see a hot spot from algae bloom when weather conditions and water temperature is just right.

I've come to the realization that the only "gold" on Oak Island is the advertising dollars they rake in by suckering people to watch!

I think it’s more likely that Sir Elton John was good friends with and loved Princess Di and probably hates Charles and Camilla. Read that Ed Sheeran said no as well. Most of them cited other obligations but I’m not buying it. If you’re a major music star and you’re British and you get asked to sing at the Coronation - a once in a lifetime opportunity, if you really want to be there you’ll make it work, tour or not. I think they didn’t want any part of the **** show that is the monarchy right now and used a convenient excuse so as not to stir up more drama.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the TPF. And for those who struggle on this day, for whatever reason, hang in there.

That's a wonderful sentiment. These manufactured "holidays" don't mean the same thing to everyone, so it's nice to see it acknowledged.

I moved across the country last year to get my mom's condo emptied out, and help her transition to assisted living. It definitely strained our relationship for awhile. She knew she had to move (was there for 40 years) but of course it was still hard. So a lot of darts got thrown my way while giving away unneeded furniture (like a formal dining room set).

It's better now, I'm happy to say. Her facility did a big Mother's Day brunch on Friday and it was very nice. At her age of 96, I can't count on having lots more of these kinds of events. :)

My wife made it through the first Mother’s Day without Daniel. We had the three kids’ rooms painted on Friday and Saturday, and she spent today shampooing the carpet in what was Daniel’s room. She has decided to redo it in a sand and sea theme in his memory, and I think it is going to look fantastic. I think today provided some catharsis for her. I think our trip to the West Cost will also be cathartic.

The holidays are rough. It sounds like a good plan on the room theme. Hugs to you, wife and family.

I was my MIL and Mom's "it" person after the Dad's died. Doctor's appts, help at home, etc. When my Mom moved to assisted living was mad understandably. Since I was the daily person, I got the grief. My siblings visited and were the "breath of fresh air" and I was "the old shoe". After months of this I finally had a heart to heart with her. I told her that if I were her I would be mad as a hornet moving out of my home, but please don't take it out on me. She didn't realize that she was. I told her it is ok to vent to me just not at me.

My MIL wanted to move her formal dining room set to her independent one bedroom apartment too. I told her they serve meals in the dining room.
