The Coffee House

A lot of those westerns were based on easterns - samurai movies directed by Akiria Kurosawa and starring Toshiro Mifuni. A Fistful of Dollars was based on Yojimbo. I liked the Clint Eastwood versions, but they come in second to Toshiro Mifuni's versions.
Western directors have done a bit of strip-mining: Seven Samurai/Magnificent Seven; Hidden Fortress/Star Wars(1977);Andy Lau's Infernal Affairs/Scorcese's The Departed.

Catch Kurosawa's "Stray Dog" if you can.

Nobody did bada$$ quite like Mifune!

Thanks for the suggestion! I somehow missed "Stray Dog." When I was a teenager, about 60 years ago, there was a Toho movie theater in Manhattan, and I got to see many of the great films on the big screen.

Hey hosers.

Tomorrow the low is 40, highs next week mostly high 60s (couple of days in the 70s. Looks like a short Fall this year.

He was in Rashomon. One of my favs. Of course that movie was remade like 20 times....LOL
SPOILER: Rashomon has my favorite last line - edging out "Some Like it Hot"'s "Nobody's perfect." When some asks which version was correct, as they are leaving after the rain, the story-teller's response is to shrug his shoulders. End of movie!

Back down to cooler temps but it rained this morning. We made some headway in the basement; two lids of large trash bags to the landfill.

Tomorrow is Wooly Fest at our favorite pottery; alpacas will bee there!

Fall is definitely here in my neck of the woods! Lows in the 40s F and highs in the 50s F for the next several days. Just a few days ago we were still in shorts and tee shirts!

I took photos of the grand's basketball game. What I learned is I am not a sports photographer ;) I took the Fuji 50-140 lens and used mostly on the 50 length which would be about 76mm on FF. I had to boost the ISO to get a decent shutter speed. Wide open it is f2.8. This is a middle school so plenty of seating. I sat at the top of the first level.

I'm thinking next time to take my Canon & 50mm f1.2. I think the Canon does better with higher ISO and will give me a much faster shutter speed.

Maybe by the time she is in HS I will have this figured out. Or maybe not.

@CherylL , a full frame will almost always do better with high ISO's than a crop sensor camera will. But you are on the right track. honestly, even being on the edge of the court the 50mm will be too short. I shot basketball with a 70-200mm but know people that use 85 or 135mm for it.

Just keep shooting and trying and you will get better just like any disipline of shooting.

First relatively clear night since pre-summer. Looks like about 50% cloud cover. Have a good night. . . . :-)

In my younger days I could manage the weight of a 70-200 and K1MII, now I'd be hard pressed to do so, I''d need a monopod. I've noticed lots of photographers using them at college football games with long glass. Basketball might be an issue as you don't normally have much room on the sides.

I have the 50, 85 and 135 Canon lenses. My original thinking was getting many players in view. Looking at basketball sports photos, is the action of two or three players better? With the 40mb Fuji I hoped to crop, but too noisy. Thanks for your tips!

In most cases you will hear people advise you to shoot tight and isolate players. Getting lots of players is okay for some shots as it tells the story. But for the most part, you want to get isolated individuals or one on one shots.

Finally, temps in the upper 50's this morning. Heading out a little later with my FIL and one of my sons to "knock a little ball into a gopher hole with a stick..."
Have fun playing whack-a-mole! ;)

Enjoy the cool weather - y'all have waited awhile for it.
