What's new

The Coffee House

That's serious precip! Would loan you a canoe if I could! On a similarly crazy note--frost overnight in my 'hood last night...
It's been chilly overnight for the last couple of days. We saw frost warnings but escaped that.

Happy Friday, hosers! Despite cool nights it's been gorgeous here. Full sun right now, and 76F. The birds and my visiting ducks are in full Spring mania, gobbling up the seeds and cracked corn as fast as I can get it out there.

The rabbits are no longer going for my Black-Eyed Susans, they've survived and gotten thick and bushy - probably don't taste as good!

Wonderful oriole action at the feeder this year, too - we must have some repeat customers.

Oh, and the friendly fox squirrel I've mentioned? She's a mama squirrel. Visiting our back door at least twice a day now, looking very pregnant and adorable.

Critters. Luckily I adore them all; they're eating me out of house and home.

Hi all, just popping in to say hiya all, providing the weather is good tomorrow I plan to get in the garden with the camera.
I have worked to help make it look good so time to photograph it
i am on the last stages of rebuilding my old garden bench. Rebecca and I sat out on it for years, however last year it just collapsed and I decided to use what I could of the original.

I want 2 of'em😉. Before they branched out into separate species.

Gardening is fun & being outdoors, digging dirt not so much though🤣. Might go pick some winter weeds myself since the suns out, 2nd day of winter here.

Good afternoon! Sadly, the weekend is almost at an end and it's back to work. My favorite trail is underwater and closed, as are most of the nature areas due to flooding. I took opportunity of a brief break in the weather to mow the lawn and add a couple more plants to the garden, a bright red salvia for the pollinator garden and two "mosquito plants" for the patio. More storms are on the way as I type and the sky is darkening. An ominous rumbling can be heard in the distance.

Ugh - sorry for all the rain. I well recall how quickly things went underwater when we lived in The Woodlands, about 50+/- miles north of Houston. Trails flooded, and a planned "flood plain" under a bridge, meant to help hold water from the neighborhoods, would fill rapidly until you could only see treetops when driving over.

Strange weather down there. Hope these storms pass through quickly!

In other news, Happy Monday, hosers. I'm on my last week of physical therapy for my knees and IT band. I've done everything they asked and can't say it's helped much.

Do those mosquito plants work? Is it a citronella plant?

Sorry to hear that but hopefully time will heal it.

Hope you find something that works. I discovered hemp gummies that really helped with my shoulder and sciatica pain, especially at night when the pain becomes more noticeable because I'm not engaged in any activities to take my mind off of it. The hemp gummies have trace amounts of THC in them but are legal at both the Federal and State level, although there is a possibility that it can show up in a UA, so it was just a trial to see if it works, and it did for me. They are made with CBD and THC derived from hemp that has less than 0.3% THC dry weight.

Mosquitos can't tolerate citronella and related plants. I have a citronella plant and a geranium plant (true geranium), which mosquitos hate. In fact, you can buy geranium oil that you can put in a container that makes the area smell like geraniums. The challenge, especially with the plants, is that a slight breeze can blow the scent away, so you need to place them upwind, or have them in a semi-contained area. My patio is semi-contained, so the scent doesn't get blown away as much.

I use tinctures, not gummies, but I have also found that the full spectrum CBD oils (which contains the <0.3 THC) work much better than CBD isolate for inflammation and joint pain.

Wow, you have the full menagerie at your house! A bunny has taken up residency in our backyard when we were gone. Now we have to go out by the feeders to shoo it off before letting the dogs out.

After MLW, MLSIL and I picked up a good amount of the sticks and dead branches, I drove the mower through the dead leaves and reclainmed about 1/3 of the back yard. No grass, but the ivy, virginia creeper, and poison ivy are now gone. W're going to MLSIL's this coming weekend to help her clear out her garage, then back to our place the weekend afterward. All getting ready for the eventual move north in a bit over a year.

I took some quick shots of the porcelain birds that mom had. Son #1 expressed some interest in a few, and I'll probably keep three or four. I'll dust and reshoot whatever doesn't get shipped to OK, or stays here, and get them up for sale.

Probably keeping this one.

A bit of a surprise guest early this morning when I went to take out the trash. He was just a baby. Tipped over the can and shooed him on his way in the direction of the nearest bunch of trees.
