Around here they plant acorns in all the flowerbeds, which is pretty annoying. Black Walnuts don't grow here, but my brother in Richmond, VA has one. The sucker is around 60 feet tall and will kill you if you stand underneath it when one of those pods falls.Local squirrels are expert at planting black walnuts. Constantly chopping down small black walnut trees at the family ruin. Their toxicity kills of most nearby plants, shrubs and trees that can't tolerate juglone.

Black Walnut Toxicity | Causes, Tolerant and Susceptible Plants| The Morton Arboretum
Black walnuts produce a chemical called juglone, which occurs naturally in all parts of the tree, especially in the buds, nut hulls, and roots. The leaves and stems contain smaller quantities of juglone, which is leached into the soil after they fall.mortonarb.org
