The Coffee House

Local squirrels are expert at planting black walnuts. Constantly chopping down small black walnut trees at the family ruin. Their toxicity kills of most nearby plants, shrubs and trees that can't tolerate juglone.

This if you're interested:

Around here they plant acorns in all the flowerbeds, which is pretty annoying. Black Walnuts don't grow here, but my brother in Richmond, VA has one. The sucker is around 60 feet tall and will kill you if you stand underneath it when one of those pods falls.

Played a cruel joke on squirrels at my old mostly tree-less 'burb place in Toronto before moving. Threw some green walnuts from the family ruin out in the yard. No tree in sight. Squirrels pounced on 'em but kept looking skyward wondering where the hell they came from.

I'm experimenting with trying to grow a magnolia from seed. Found a seed pod on a walk, so I figured why not give it a try.
Evergreen or deciduous?

There's 2 evergreens in the front yard, a cream one in the back corner & a purple one you can just see a branch in the bottom right. The myrtle on the left and Vader's cherry blossom on the right, the other cherry blossom is behind me next to the driveway.

Lmao, the more trees the better hey👍. More squirrels too🤪!

Ps. Except black walnut.

I'm surprised my hummingbirds aren't over weight. Somehow they managed to drain two 32oz feeders in a week 😮

First time that happened. Busy little buggers.

AU$300 from the coin auction in total minus a few dollars for eBay's cut which is 16%, that nets me $250. Not bad for 5 $2 coins.

Dinner time, enjoy your day northern hemisphere...

We got a later start than we wanted and ran into all kinds of traffic tie-ups from the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel to I-95 construction through Connecticut, but we made it to Mystic.

I decided to go light and brought the D40.

We’ll be back on the road in a couple hours. @limr: we waved to you from The Hutch; @SquarePeg: We’ll wave to you and Princess as we shoot by Boston.

If he decides to cut it down, I’ll be happy to haul it away. One of my favorite woods.

Around here they are evergreen. The pod I found belongs to a grandiflora I believe, so it will be interesting to see if I can get at least one of them to sprout. It will go in the back yard if it does. Out front I plan on adding some azaleas and abelias.

I'll let him know. He's been wanting to cut it down, but its massive and right between two houses. And very expensive to cut down.

Happy Friday, hosers! The sun is still shining, it's been dry with low humidity for several days now. After all our summer flooding it feels great outside. Yay!

We're taking my mom to see Arsenic and Old Lace tonight. A classic oldie that I have yet to see so I'm looking forward to it.

Happy weekend!

Well we're back into RVing again. Pulled the trigger on a new 2024 Rockwood TT. We sold our 5th wheel in April, it was just to big for the kind of travel we do now. This one is smaller and better suited for our needs. Already have September, October and November trips on the calendar.

Honestly, he could probably recoup some, if not most of the cost by selling the wood.

Hey hosers, we're in the house rental in Maine! Number One and HLW is in Chicago waiting for next plane; we're about to get Number Two (lazy lobster).
