The Coffee House

Today was Thanksgiving Day in Canada, so I'll wish everyone a happy, healthy Thanksgiving, and yes, in Canuckland we generally have turkey or ham!
Nothing like getting a jump on our annual eat-a-thon/drink-a-thon but Thanksgiving is the 9th, bro.

Thanks for the well wishes everyone. I'm up and about, but it really sucks that my Illy coffee has no smell or flavor, just bitter hot water. In-laws are aware of the situation, and DMIL is "damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead..." FIL (the actual Naval officer) is more like, "there are torpedoes in the water, proceed with caution..." Keeping myself hydrated, monitoring my O2, Thieves in the diffuser (can't smell it though), and managing the sore throat. Hoping this passes soon.
Low and slow, bro. Feel your pain about scentless/tasteless coffee--no fun.

Jeff, for fun have a look and listen to the Danish National Symphony's renditions of the Morricone themes for the Leone "Spaghetti" Westerns, "The Good, the Bad and Ugly," "A Fistful of Dollars," and "For a Few Dollars More."

Fantastic! That hanging mannequin though...

I hope that passes for you quickly. A friend of mine had Covid in 2021 and still can’t smell or taste anything unless it’s really really spicy 😮

Had the flu and shingles shots, next up is the covid booster whenever it's available. I'm not getting sick with that! Or at least with the shot it would be a milder case. All people had to do was get vaccinated and we might have been rid of it, like those childhood vaccines for polio, measles, mumps, etc.

'The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly' must've been a big hit when I was a kid, seems to be one of those songs that everybody knows. Jeff I don't know about that mannequin handing there either! The movie was on TCM not too long ago but I didn't watch much of it, but I think it's a reference to a scene in the movie.

The booster is out of the question for me for at least the next 90 days, because that's how long one has to wait after having COVID. Will be getting the flu shot soon, though. Got shingles vax's out of the way last year. Senses are starting to return. I've been using Thieves oil in the diffuser, and have started to be able to smell it, so that is a good sign.

Tuva Semmingsen, the "Wah-wah lady" as some call her, is a first-rate mezzo-soprano. Appears that voice effect was her pairing in-tune with a harmonica. Look close and you can see her six-shooter earring. Clever. The hanging man is from The Good, the Bad and the Ugly when Eli Wallach's character is hung and saved by Clint Eastwood. Yeah, it freaks people who aren't familiar with the film.

Hah! I got that wrong. Thanksgiving in Canada will be Oct 9. Apparently I posted on Korean thanksgiving equivalent. Well, the "Happy Thanksgiving" may have been premature, but it was an honest wish.

So glad to hear your senses are coming back.

A lot of those westerns were based on easterns - samurai movies directed by Akiria Kurosawa and starring Toshiro Mifuni. A Fistful of Dollars was based on Yojimbo. I liked the Clint Eastwood versions, but they come in second to Toshiro Mifuni's versions.

I took photos of the grand's basketball game. What I learned is I am not a sports photographer ;) I took the Fuji 50-140 lens and used mostly on the 50 length which would be about 76mm on FF. I had to boost the ISO to get a decent shutter speed. Wide open it is f2.8. This is a middle school so plenty of seating. I sat at the top of the first level.

I'm thinking next time to take my Canon & 50mm f1.2. I think the Canon does better with higher ISO and will give me a much faster shutter speed.

Maybe by the time she is in HS I will have this figured out. Or maybe not.

Sorry to hear @jeffashman hope it's a speedy recovery. DW had it twice this past fall. The first time she took the Paxlovid, two later she was symptom free. The second time they made her ride it out. Took 7 days for the symptoms to pass. Then the brain fog set in for a month.

To far away. I shot basketball years ago from the sidelines, that's where you learn to keep both eyes open.....One eye on the viewfinder and one eye watching out for balls and players. LOL

Don't be afraid to boost the ISO, just remember you want a good exposure. Don't under expose a high ISO shot then try to recover post. Check out member @ronlane he shoots fantastic sports shots and does a great job with high ISO.
