The Coffee House

How cool is Uber Eats when you need them! We rarely drink coffee but just woke up and really felt like it this morning. Stay in bed and get a bottle of milk dropped off. Convenience at it's finest! ✅

We did Instacart during the pandemic. If we are ill then our daughter will make a run for us.

This past week has been warm and not back to cold with a biting wind. The laundry hamper looks like an archeological dig on seasons.

I've been sneezing since we did the yard cleanup. Heavy rain helped knock out some of the pollen.

Howdy and happy St Paddy's Day! Cooler temps this week. We had a hellacious thunderstorm roll through last night, and it pruned a branch off of our Bradford Pear. If it didn't cost so much, I'd have the whole thing cut down, especially since it is near the end of its lifespan, but having a tree cut down is so expensive anymore. Too wet and soggy to do anything outside today, so I'll just chill indoors.

Mother Nature ripped out both the Bradford Pears I had in my front yard in Georgia, about 2 years apart from one another, I think they topped out at around 15 years, and looked fine for about half that time. Once they start getting top heavy, it's just a matter of time.

Snow is swirling outside, like a tiny white shower, not really hitting the ground. The birds are acting like we're in for a cold night - I've topped off the feeder twice today and tossed out extra cracked corn, in sympathy. :586:

The last half of March will stay on the cool side, which is fine with me - just don't want any more snow at this point!

It’s going back into the low 30’s over nights this week. Hopefully the bidding trees will be ok. One night expected to drop to 27° and both of my cherry trees are full of buds. I’m paranoid after what happened last year with that deep freeze in February (-18°) that killed off all the cherry, peach and hydrangea buds!

Bradford pear is considered an invasive in this area and people have been removing them and replacing with native options. Those Bradford pear trees pop up in areas where there was never one before so I’m assuming it’s birds or wind spreading them. The bigger issue, IMO, is they stink! I have sensitive sinuses so maybe it’s just me but I don’t even like to all past one of those!

I used to like to grocery shop but now that I’m dieting I’m better off just using instacart so I can avoid the junk food.

We are heading towards winter here in Australia. Our summer here in Perth was the hottest on record with some days getting to 45 celsius. Roll on winter I say!
I am always ready for winter by the end of a hot summer! We had a very hot summer here last year, but also a lot of rain - almost every weekend! We did end up with a very mild fall, which was nice, weatherwise, but not so great for the foliage.

When I lived in Canada for a year, many years ago, I remember how beautiful the fall colours were. I was in Nova Scotia at the time. We don't get that here in Perth.

I had to look up if that is linked to Instagram..! I've never had any social media so I know nothing about all this stuff. This site and a forum I used to be on is the only time I've ever spoken to people online... 😄

It’s a shopping app that delivers. It’s like DoorDash but for groceries instead of takeout. Although yesterday I ordered online from Walgreens and it was delivered by DoorDash, which I thought was really strange. I expected it to be shipped.

I really just need to suck up the cost and have it cut down, and replace it with a Shumard Oak, since those are native. Anything but a Live Oak, those dump their leaves twice a year, and they are so waxy that they don't compost well. Yes, the birds will spread them. They can also send out runners, and take over an area in no time flat.

We payed a couple of guys to trim the trees out front. They showed up one day selling their service, and we decided we needed to do that. They only charged us $200.00 for both trees, normally it's that per tree. I asked my wife to pay them an extra $100. I'm guessing they were new to the country, and didn't know what the going rate was.

Lest we allow ole Paddy to get all the attention, March 17th is also the saint day for St.Gertrude, patron saint of a metric shite-ton of stuff, including...of course...cats.

I attended services at the Church of the Open Bottle yesterday. Never left the stool, er, pew for several worshipful hours.

...and it's a ginger cat in this painting! Reminds me of the little girls we fostered a few years back. :586:

You go, Gertrude.

War and War:

I was watching the news and thinking. It is interesting that "on screen" we have Dune and Shogun depicting fictional war and at the same time we are seeing the Ukraine and Gaza battles in the news. You'd think we have had enough of that.

Yeah, I know, stop watching the news. . . . :-)

I stopped watching the news, because they like to massage the stories to sensationalize them and get more views.

Same. The sensationalizing is on all fronts and they care more about clicks than truth. I will occasionally watch bbc news and it’s fascinating to see how USA is viewed from the outside.

On that same topic, I’ve recently gone down, quite a rabbit hole with the BritBox app watching a lot of British drama TV. The way that Americans are portrayed makes me sad. They must think that we are all gun toting, war mongering, greed driven, racist, psychopaths
