What's new

The Coffee House

No DUI tonite! In-house eat-a-thon/drink-a-thon well underway. Sober-up photowalk scheduled for early 1/1/25. Cold+light snow. Perfect!
Very best to all TPF out-patients for 2025!

Happy New Year, though I think the day should be the winter solstice. No parties for us: MLW and I will be on the road to Maine with Zoe kitty.

Happy New Year, hosers! :band:

We're staying in, as usual. Safe and warm by the fire, with some chow and a good bottle of red. Whether we make it to see a pineapple drop at midnight remains to be seen. ;)

Stayed in as well but had some family over for drinks and Chinese. We started early and all the oldies were headed home by 9. The youngsters headed for the casino for some fun. I’m on the couch with the pup enjoying some peace and quiet. Happy New Year!

New Years Eve dandelions apparently? It’s december in Vermont...like what the heck. These ain't suppose to be popping up.

It was 50+ here yesterday and high 40’s today. Craziness. Expecting some frigid temps next week. Hopefully all this wacky weather won’t affect the spring blooms.

Happy New Year! Hopefully 2025 will be a little saner... We'll be staying in, might stay up, might not. We are a mile from one of the premier firework displays in the area, so it'll be a little noisy for about 15-20 minutes, and we'll see how Honey reacts to fireworks.
Harlie is completely unfazed by fireworks (or thunder) so maybe you’ll get lucky. Happy New Year!

Safe travels my friend!

The bar/restaurant I go to sometimes does a Sunday night football challenge where you answer some questions about the upcoming game and predict the outcome of the game and who ever gets the closest wins a $25 gift card.

Well I got a call today and I won! I even won nearly $200 off from scratch off tickets. Maybe 2025 is gonna be my year! Haha.

Happy New year to all our friends on here!

Are you getting impacted by this swath of crappy weather? I just looked at the radar map on my weather map and, according to AccuWeather, y'all have quite a system moving through.

It's drizzling here, but as soon as it dries out the temperature is going to plunge. We're in for a cold spell!

Happy new year, everyone!

We had a few thunderstorms last night, mainly to the south. Cloudy today but no rain.

Made it to the house without any problems other than a crash on a ramp in Connecticut, whick I was able to bypass. Zoe did excellent (she hates cars and "outside" in general). She's still a bit nervouse and has been hanging out under the bed, but has been through most of the house.

MLSIL came in this morning, and is decorating for the belated holiday. Tomorrow is the celebration for us.

Quality time spent with the snowblowers today. Damn cold after a moderate overnight dump, worse at the family ruin. Holiday food and booze still holding out. All pleased to chill till the wkend. Intrusions happily limited to trusted consigliere and admirers-hah!

I'm looking at 24-inch two-stage wheeled Ariens Deluxe or Honda. The Ariens is easier on the budget but the Honda is supposed to be hard to beat.

Outside of Honda, so many blowers are still MTD-made, hence nearly standard on build. That means accessible parts and service. Wear-out parts like auger and drive belts for MTD-made blowers are usually easy to source--think Home Depot. Honda? 24 inch seems to be the sweet spot for 2 stage. No clue unless it's Honda engines on older MTD machines. They're simple to service outside engine issues.
This guy:

He's the MAN when it comes to snowblowers.

Whatever you get, make sure to grab extra shear pins for the augers--the sacrificial bolts meant to break if you suck up branches, etc. My FIL managed once to gag a new blower on a fancy doormat just purchased by my MIL--he paid years for that one!
