What's new

The Coffee House

Bitter cold today. Forecast for Sunday is 5 to 8". Just south of us is sleet and rain. A woman at the store today told me 15 to 24". Did the regular grocery shopping at Aldi in the morning and it was busy. The other grocery stores in town had lines backed up with hour waits last evening. Contacted the snow plow guy to get on the list. We haven't had to get the driveway plowed in a few years.

Getting whacked repeatedly today by zero-viz squalls tracking SE off Lake Huron. We piled in lotsa food and booze before Xmas. Especially welcome since the crew is recuperating just now from some nasty bronchial thing that left us barking like harbor seals. Have all the kit to move the white stuff fast--luckily.
Fingers crossed things don't get too deep down your way!

Dang! I'm north of you, so I somehow expect to always get the worst of the weather. But it seems like this particular system is sagging a bit to the south and, aside from the big chill ❄️ we're being spared all/most of the white stuff this time.

Stay warm!

SW Air sent an advisory to MLW and MLSIL about possible delays and cancellations; It looks like mid-Atlantic may get hit harder than New England.

My FIL managed once to gag a new blower on a fancy doormat just purchased by my MIL--he paid years for that one!
I would have liked to see that...must have been an experience.

Morning y'all. Been a busy few days for us with Lil'Bit here, and closing the books on 2024. Took Lil'Bit to see Wicked on Thursday. We were pleasantly surprised with this remake of the Wizard Of Oz, that expanded on the original story line. The only downside side was, that it left us wanting more that will be revealed in the next release this year.

All this talk of snow! Now they're saying we might get snow this week.

Good morning! Is everyone having a good start to 2025? In an effort to shed some weight around the mid section, I'm switching to non-alcoholic spirits, beer, and wine. A regular serving of gin is about 350 calories, versus 35 for the NA version, so you can see that is a pretty big difference. Most of the NA wines I've tried aren't very good, so still searching. The NA beers/ales I've tried on the other hand aren't bad, and I found a pretty nice NA pink gin for making gin and tonics. Will I miss the buzz? Sure, but I'm not quitting 100%, but I need to change my daily habit if I want to get into better shape and enjoy my retirement in about six years. It also won't hurt in helping to control my pre-diabetes and maybe even getting my A1C to drop.

Predictions are 5 to 8" of snow starting with freezing rain. Predictions have varied the past few days so who knows what we will actually get. Some stores have empty shelves of fruit, meat, and milk. Other stores are fully stocked or at least plenty to choose from. I guess it is nuts out there shopping like we will be snowed in for a month.

Down here if anyone says the "snow" word, people go crazy. They strip the store shelves of milk and bread......you know you can only survive being snowed in with milk/bread sandwiches. LOL

Guess it was the 2013 ice storm that made me a bit of a winter prepper. Nothing radical but enough food, water, fuel, alt heating and cash to hold out for 5-7 days.

A skinny tree but one cute tree skirt.

Whoopsie. I got the beast stuck on a slight decline. Wasent my intention...just cleaning up around the fire I had and it was just too muddy and couldn't back out... couldn't even steer. A little scary being so close to the creek! Managed to use the bucket to curl myself back up the hill and final gained traction. A learning experience!

One of the reasons I have Ag tires on mine, they get better grip. The only time I've been stuck was when I got a little to close to a swampy area while mowing. The topsoil looked dry but it was only a thin crust over soup. The front end fell through and bottomed out. Had to rig a snatch block and cable to the F350 to get it out.
