The Coffee House

On my feed this week an ad from B&H popped up for a Savage 5x7 pop-up backdrop on sale. WIthout really thinking I bought it, came in today. Because of the price I really didn't have high expectations. Was I surprised! It's probably to light for everyday use, but for occasional on site use this thing rocks

This is an early report on Jackie Stewart's autobiography "Winning Is Not Enough". I have not finished reading the book yet, but it addresses a problem which he has been tackling that I think people might want to know about. Jackie Stewart is a champion shooter (clay pigeons) and also a champion F1 racing driver. Wonderful life right? Well his early life was not so wonderful because he is also dyslexic. He has difficulty reading and writing. The book covers his problem and what he has done for others who also have this problem. Yes, he covers his "wonderful life" as a champion, but his efforts to assist others is perhaps more important to him. It is also important for a whole nation. When you help people achieve their maximum potential, it gives back to the community and thus everyone else beyond that person. It helps the nation, and maybe even the world.

Mornin Hosers. Going to be hot and steamy here today and most of this coming week. I’ve been enjoying the cooler weather we’ve had recently and like Leo I am not looking forward to the heat. I’ll putter around the garden and take the dog for a walk in the morning then spend the hottest part of the day indoors somewhere. Lots of options around here - museums, movies, malls… or I can hide in my house painting or catching up on some tv.

Stay cool my friends!

Mother Nature gave us a roller coaster ride yesterday - temps in the 90s, cold drenching rain, temps dropped to the mid 70s, finished the day back in the high 80s.

Good morning, all. Nothing planned today except putting the address sign post in the ground. I may measure everything for the ramp in front. Lazy lobster has a friend who uses a wheel chair and we figure one of us us oldies might need one, eventually. It’s an 18-inch rise (45.7cm) to the porch, so an 18-foot length (5.48m) will be standard. This works out perfectly as there are two sets of stairs from the porch, about 20 feet (6.1m) apart. The steps furthest from the driveway will be turned into a landing and the ramp will run parallel to the porch and end just short of the other steps. The current plants may need to be moved to outside the ramp and put in a heavy ground cover between the ramp and the porch, to help keep grass out.

We’ll have to figure out what to do with the back when we eventually reconfigure the deck and put in a patio. Maybe put a small elevator out there.

MLSIL has been craving dinner from a certain Korean chicken restaurant chain. We don’t have one in Maine so yesterday we took a ride to Nashua, NH, about two hours each way. It was a nice evening for a ride, so worth it.

MLW drives us to Boston on Tuesday and MLSIL and I train back to MD for a couple weeks. It makes for a bit later departure than if we went to Brunswick, ME. I got the go-ahead to get a power washer so I’ll pick one up in MD and practice with it on MLSIL’s walkway first; maybe try to hit the patio at our MD place.

Look at the Simpson 3400 psi. Reasonably priced and so far I've been well pleased with mine. If you're planning on cleaning driveways/sidewalks, would suggest getting a rotary surface cleaner attachment, otherwise it's hard to keep it from looking like a Zebra. 🤨

Rain forest heat and humidity today. Solution? Minimal clothing, cold salmon and spud salad with dill mustard mayonnaise. Then there's beer...Hacker-Pschorr Munich Gold, a case of which I'll put
a respectable dent in this afternoon/evening. Hardship...Stay cool y'all!

That looks like gas powered; I really want AC electric since it will really only get used once or twice a year. I'm currently looking at a couple of 2500-3000 PSI machines.

I would have preferred electric but I couldn't find one with the higher pressure and flow. My previous one was electric 2800psi, the difference in cleaning between that one and this one is night and day. Plus the higher amp motors require a larger power cord, and limit you in accessibility.

Kind of funny all ya'll up north talking about hot and steamy. Come on down, we will flirt with 100F this week, and of course 100% humidity and not a cloud in the sky. And it's just the first week of summer, wait till the so-called dog days of July.

Seriously, though, the transition from parka to grass skirt can be unnerving!

No thanks. That's one of the reasons we decided to retire to Maine.

I'm definitely leaning to the Simpson. If only it were battery-start. I'll deal with the gas tank (drain or start periodically in off season.)

A pal hacked a similar set-up from tent poles and sunscreen awning ripstop--killer seamstress girlfriend worked magic. Really useful for ghetto lighting shoots. Nice find.
