Poor little kitty! I know you're feeling shocked about this, but keep in mind that the good news is how early you caught this. Good on you for getting him into the vet right away, and whatever shot the vet gave him made him feel a lot better, along with the other medicine. It sounds like he's responding well to the treatment, gaining his weight back and playing again.I got the blood work back from my cat, it's not good news. He has chronic kidney disease. The vet said that he's extremely early in the stages like barely stage 1 and it progresses really slowly. They're gonna give us some medicated food so he's gonna have to be on a special diet to prolong his life. I'm taking it really hard, been crying for the past hour or so. It's really hard for me as he's been my emotional support animal for the last 7 years or so and I'm not ready for this to happen. I don't know what to do how to process this or even how to move on with my life too because I feel like I'm falling apart right now, I don't know how I'm going to sleep or eat. But I can't let myself become depressed because then it will affect my cat too. I'm scared and I feel sick to my stomach.
We had to change our older cat's food completely, too, for urinary tract issues. Apparently some forms are rather common in cats. She hated the new food and it took awhile for her to adjust, and it was a rough time. But she eventually got used to it and now she actually loves it, thank goodness.
Getting Luke used to it now is the best thing you can do. Remember that animals are very stoic, they care most about having their people around, having a routine they can trust, and getting fed and scritch-scratched regularly. You can do this. It's important for him to have you around.
Keep us posted!
