Well, other than the fact that I doubt your average criminal is going to stay on the scene because he's being told to do so by a mobile trash can. Other than that though, wow.. what a great idea!

If this thing takes off, and providing there is enough smooth, dry pavement for them to roll about on, I see the future with them being properly armed to take care of any potential "problems".

Yup, that's what it appears to be. Although, if one incorporates the technology in the self-driving cars, with the mobility of some of the in-development land drones, coupled with a few other technologies already present, then it is quite possible to see security "bots" patrolling warehouses, parking areas, and similar spaces. On the other hand, mobility is not really that necessary if one can use a multitude of miniaturized sensors to cover the space in question. The key issue in all these technologies are the security protocols incorporated to prevent unauthorized access and/or hacking.

Yes, because computers work so incredibly well my first thought is, lets give them automatic weapons. I mean seriously, it's not like there is such a thing as a "computer glitch". They just don't happen.
